Arsenal and Liverpool have shown interest in the Goalkeeper

Jan Oblak joined Atletico Madrid from Benfica in 2014 and has been a mainstay in the team since then. With constant top performances, he has established himself as one the world’s leading goalkeepers. In 161 appearances for the club, he has kept 93 clean sheets and conceded just 98 goals.

The Slovenia International has been a regular for the club this season, making 52 appearances in all competitions. He has helped his team to win the Europa League against Marseille on Wednesday.

The 25 year old has a deal with Atleti until 2021 that includes a buyout option reportedly worth €100 million. Despite that he has attracted interest from Premier League giants Arsenal and Liverpool and according to reports they are willing to pay his buy-out clause.

La Liga giants are aware of the interest for their star goalkeeper and are taking steps to try to keep him at the club beyond this season. They want to increase the release clause of Oblak, chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin has confirmed.

“We’re going to try to increase Oblak’s clause, but what we have to do is trust him,” Gil Marin told Cadena COPE.

“We know he wants to stay and we want him to stay.”

Former Benfica man kept a clean sheet as Diego Simeone’s side won the Europa League final and after that contest, he told reporters that he is continuing to ignore the speculations suggesting that he will leave the club this summer.

He said: “People think and say things. I have a contract here and I do not know what’s going to happen in the future, it’s not up to me.

“I’m here for the moment and I’m not thinking about anything other than Sunday, we need a point to be second.”
