Bastian Schweinsteiger is the latest in a line of club legends to cast doubt over their future. The central midfielder has become synonymous with Bayern Munich but has said he is no hurry to sign a new deal to stay at the Allianz Arena.
Pep Guardiola is said to be keen to extend Schweinsteiger’s current deal past its current expiry date in 2016.
This latest development is sure to have sparked the interest of Jose Mourinho and Louis Van Gaal, who courted the talismanic Bavarian upon his appointment in the summer only to be rebuffed by Schweinsteiger as well as Muller and Kroos.
Speaking in a recent interview, the national team captain was coy over his future, commenting, “I am in no hurry to renew. It’s not something that bothers me because I have a year before it expires.” He further went on to assert that his sole focus is getting back to full fitness, “The important this is that my physical problems and injuries are resolved. The rest will follow.”
It is unclear as to whether Schweinsteiger intends to leave or is sure enough of his future not to let and impending expiry worry him. Either way, we can be certain that, should he run his contract down, the vultures will be circling.
