According to latest reports, Chelsea have been told to pay £30m for Bayern Munich’s Mats Hummels.

The German centre-half has been made available in the January window and he could be on the move to Stamford Bridge soon. With a lot of injury concerns, Hummels has only started 8 of Munich’s 14 Bundesliga games this season.

He is considered as one of the best players in his particular position and the German giants have also directed Chelsea to make an official offer before January 14. Ideally, the Bavarians would also like to bring in a suitable replacement if Hummels does leave next month.

Niko Kovac only has Nikolas Sule and Jerome Boateng in the position as cover. Javi Martinez could always be fielded in the position as cover but that would not suffice for an entire season.

Chelsea, on the other hand, do have Andreas Christensen in the side who has been largely unutilised by Maurizio Sarri in the first team. David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger is the manager’s leading figures at centre-back with the Dane itching more game time.

Surely Hummels’ arrival would force at least one of them out of the team. Christensen has been attracting a lot of loan interests from European sides lately. David Luiz is unhappy with the club’s resigning policy of handing players above 30 only one-season contracts. He might also leave the side following the 2018/19 campaign.
