Bayern Munich pursues Chelsea Left-Back Ian Maatsen

Discussions over a possible transfer for Ian Maatsen, the left-back for Chelsea, have reportedly begun, according to SKY Germany.

Under Mauricio Pochettino, Maatsen acquired few opportunities despite a strong preseason with Chelsea. He played just three games before going on loan to Borussia Dortmund in January.

Bayern showed interest in Maatsen after he made an impression in the Bundesliga and established himself as a crucial member of Dortmund. In a bid to replace Alphonso Davies, who is reportedly a target for Real Madrid, the Bavarian giants are keeping an eye on Maatsen.

Even if Dortmund wants to keep Maatsen on loan from Chelsea permanently, Bayern is able to look into him since the loan agreement did not include a buyout clause.

Speaking about his decision to leave Chelsea, Maatsen said in an interview with NOS last week: ‘I wanted to make a good move to get more minutes, and that has worked out well.

‘Sometimes I don’t really dwell on the moment, but you could say it’s going like an express train at the moment.’

Maatsen’s position appears to be investigated by the German club, who will keep a careful eye on his play for the rest of the season.

Maatsen’s new Chelsea deal is said to have a £35 million release clause, therefore Bayern might take benefit of the chance to add the gifted left-back to their lineup.

Maatsen’s future is still up in the air as talks continue, with Bayern appearing to be interested in signing the gifted 22-year-old.
