Nigel Reo-Coker suggests for Thiago Motta as replacement for Klopp
Former West Ham midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker has thrown a curveball into Liverpool’s managerial pursuit, suggesting that Bologna’s Thiago Motta may be an option for the club. While Xabi Alonso and Ruben Amorim got a lot of focus, Reo-Coker believes Motta deserves to be included as well.
“There’s other managers out there achieving great things and playing great styles and attractive styles that you’d probably be better off going with,” said the pundit.
“When you look at Liverpool right now, you can call them Klopp’s kids, I think you probably want a manager who’s going to be good with working with some of those youngsters because they’ve already proved that they can handle it and play at that level.
“One manager I’d probably say, look at Thiago Motta, the Bologna manager right now. He’s doing well, flying with Bologna, I think he’ll be a good manager they can look at. The Sporting Lisbon manager as well, a manager a lot of people are talking about. With what he’s done at Sporting Lisbon and how he’s got Marucs Edwards playing right now.”
At 41 years old, Motta may lack managerial experience of some other opportunities, but his outstanding stint at Bologna, where he guided them to fourth place in Serie A, speaks volumes about his managerial skills. Motta, who previously coached at Genoa and Spezia, has already shown promise in Italy’s top division.
Reo-Coker pointed out Motta’s huge playing career with clubs like as Barcelona, Inter Milan, and PSG, suggesting that his top-level experience could translate well into management.
With worries surrounding the availability of major contenders like Alonso and claimed interest from Bayern Munich, Motta presents an intriguing option for Liverpool as they hunt Jurgen Klopp’s replacement.
It remains to be seen whether Liverpool’s management will take Reo-Coker’s advise, but Motta’s name has been suggested as a prospective manager for the Reds.
