Bellamy hints at possible retirement.

Cardiff City cult hero Craig Bellamy has hinted that he may retire from professional football at the end of the current season, if Cardiff maintain their Premier League status in May.

It has been a season of sorrow and struggle for both Bellamy and his beloved club, with City 19th in the League following Sunday’s away defeat at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Bluebirds have just ten games left to secure their status for next season, and Bellamy is determind to help his club out of the mess they are in, and quite possibly bring his career to a close at the age of 34.

The striker has had a controversial career at the top level of the English game, with off the field antics and behaviour issues a major problem in his career to date.

Bellamy had been banned for the previous three games following an off-the-ball swipe at Jonathan de Guzman in last month’s South Wales derby, a game in which his beloved Cardiff lost 3-0.

The Welshman stated in an interview to the Daily Telegraph…

“I feel sharp and quick,” said Bellamy, whose season has been blighted by niggling injuries and a subsequent lack of fitness. “I actually feel that I have got a very good chance of deciding games now, whereas I didn’t feel like that at the start of the season.

“Who knows where my career goes at the end of the season. But if it is to finish, what a nice way to go out by keeping this club in the Premier League. It would just be a great achievement, like promotion was last year. I would love to leave the club in a healthy state.”

City are currently in dire need of points, with Solskjaer plotting five wins from ten for a great escape, just like West Bromwich Albion in 2005.

Bellemy’s career has been colourful to say the least, and aside from Cardiff, is probably most remembered for his time at the likes of Liverpool and Newcastle United.
