Manchester United target Mehdi Benatia has revealed why he turned down Chelsea a few years ago.
The Roma defender, now aged 27 turned a multi million pound three year deal at the Bridge during Mourinho’s original spell at Chelsea.
Benatia has flourished in Serie A this season, but revealed that he could not part with France, and Marseille.
He lived with both Didier Drogba, and Claude Makelele during his trial at the club.
‘I did a test of three or four days in London. I lived with Didier Drogba and Claude Makelele,’ the Moroccan said.
‘They were a great team but I did not feel ready to go. I was offered a three-year contract but I was fine at Marseille and the idea of moving abroad scared me.’
