Chelsea are set to open talks with veteran fullback Ashley cole over a possible new deal at the club.
The 33 year old is out of contract in the summer, and looked set to leave the Blues after eight years, after being over-looked by Jose Mourinho.
However, in a turn of events in which may have surprised Cole, he is in line to be a regular in the side again, following an injury to Branislav Ivanovic.
The former Arsenal manwas superb in the 0-0 draw away at Atletico Madrid, as Chelsea sttod firm and held the La Liga side to a drew.
He then kept his place for the recent 2-0 win at Liverpool, putting in another good performance.
And Cole, who is a target for Real Madrid, knows that regular first team football will see him gain a place in Roy Hodgson’s World Cup squad, heading to Brazil.
