Bernard Mendy has said that he is one of the best left backs in the world.
The Frenchman has been serving a long time on the sidelines with injury at Manchester City.
Manchester City defender Bernard Mendy has hailed himself as one of the best left backs in the world in the current scenario. The player has missed a chunk of the action this season with a notorious injury which has kept him on the sidelines. He also missed the action at the World Cup 2018 as his national team won it earlier this year.
The France international said, “If I’m not the best in the world, I’m not far away today.”
Manager Pep Guardiola had criticised his tendency to pick up injuries in the last season after he managed to make only nine appearances. The Spaniard said, “But we cannot deny that he had a big injury last season, he has another big injury right now and hopefully everyone can understand what you need to be.” Guardiola also added, “A strong guy is one who plays every three days. These kind of guys are never injured. That has to be his main target. After that we decide if he plays or not.”
Despite his criticism, the Frenchman has said that he shares a good relationship with his manager. He said, “It’s going really well, we have a good relationship, it’s always good.”
Manchester City faced a shock loss against Crystal Palace in the last match at the Etihad Stadium. They are currently standing in the second position with Tottenham just two points away from them after their massive win against Everton yesterday.
