The player does not want to play under the new manager

James Rodriguez joined Bayern Munich from Real Madrid on a two year loan deal last summer after he handed a loan transfer request. He fell behind the pecking order under Zinedine Zidane amid fierce competition for places and left the club in order for more playing time. The German side have the option to make the deal permanent.

Despite a slow start in Germany, the 26 year old rediscovered his form and helped the club to win the Bundesliga title and a place in the semi-final of Champions League. He scored 8 goals and assisted 15 in 39 appearances in all competitions.

Amid talk of those in Madrid welcoming him back in 2019, the South American told:

“Return to Madrid? I don’t know, nobody knows what will happen in the future but currently I am with Bayern.

“I’m in a good phase of form at the minute and I am good here, I am happy.”

This led to reports that the Bundesliga giants would be willing to make the deal permanent. They have been hoping to land the player on a permanent basis this summer and had a €55 million deal arranged after the Colombian enjoyed a productive season on loan from Real Madrid.

Sky Sports in Germany cite reports from Diario Gol that claim James Rodgiguez does not want to play under new manager Niko Kovac. It could be huge blow for them as they have to find a replacement for him with Douglas Costa joining Juventus on a permanent deal.

It is believed that the club will sign him from the Spanish side and will sell him for a profit. And Premier League is looking a likely destination, with Arsenal and Chelsea interested in him.

They both have been interested in him for a long time. But with neither club able to offer the player Champions League football it is yet to be seen if he would be interested in a move to London.
