The Defenders have signed 2 year and 1 year contracts respectively

Juventus centre-backs Giorgio Chiellini and Andrea Barzagli have signed new contract extensions with the club. The duo have been core members of the team that has dominated in Serie A, winning each of the past seven league titles.

Chiellini joined the Turin side from Roma in 2005 and is their seventh-longest serving player of all time, having racked up 472 appearances since joining them.

The 33 year old was a regular for the team last season despite injuries in the second of the season, making 26 Serie A appearances and helping them to win their 7th consecutive league title.

He has been named as Italian side’s new captain following the departure of veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, signing a two-year deal that runs until 2020.

Barzagli joined Juve from Wolfsburg in 2014 in 2011 and has been their mainstay in the defense since then. He has made 271 appearances and scored two goals for the Italian since he joined them.

The 37 year old was a key player for Serie A giants last term, managing to make 38 appearances in all competitions. He has signed a 1 year contract that runs until 2019.

Chiellini and Barzagli concede an average of 0.7 goals per game and win 2.3 points per match when they play together.

Juventus confirmed the news via their Twitter page, which read: “@AndreaBarzagli2 + @Chiellini + Juventus. The journey continues.”

A statement on the club website read: “Side by side they fought, they brought Juventus into #My7H and the historic fourth consecutive Italian cup and now they will continue

“Always side by side, to defend the Bianconeri colours with pride, class and passion.

“Juventus could not be happier to maintain the services of two men, who for so long have embodies the club’s Fino Alla Fine [to the bitter end] mindset.

“Here is hoping for further success for both players and the club starting next season.”
