Borussia Dortmund Freeze Player Sales To Bayern Munich

According to German publication, BILD, Borussia Dortmund have introduced a policy from within that players will no longer be sold to rivals, Bayern Munich.

The Bavarians have won the Bundesliga title for the past six years in a row, leaving very little competition in the German top-flight as a whole. Signing Robert Lewandowski has certainly played a huge role in Munich’s success over the past years and also in Dortmund’s failure to challenge for the league title.

The Polish striker was at the prime of his career when he moved to the Allianz Arena from Dortmund for free in 2014. Now he has racked up 173 goals in 219 matches Munich along with a tally of 39 assists.

Losing him to Bayern along with Mario Gotze and Mats Hummels has massively affected Dortmund’s progress as a European club. While Gotze has returned to Westflastadion, Hummels is still making appearances in the German capital and is hailed as one of the best centre-backs in the world.

Fortunately for Dortmund, the club has been able to make a comeback this season with Lucien Favre as head coach. They are currently at the top of the Bundesliga with a 6-point gap over Bayern.

BVB recently sold Christian Pulisic to Chelsea for €64m instead of their arch-rivals, who were reported to be highly interested in the USA international.

The club’s squad is filled with rising talents like Jadon Sancho, Julian Weigl, Maximilian Philipp who could fall into Bayern’s wishlist in the future but Dortmund are determined to stop helping their local competitors.
