Stoke City will only sell once Shay Given arrives
Chelsea Football Club are close to signing Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic, according to Sky Sports News.
The Blues have been interested in Begovic for the past few weeks, and their interest heated up after they sold Petr Cech to Arsenal for £10.9million.
Cech left Chelsea in search of first-team football after falling behind Thibaut Courtois in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, but that hasn’t put off Begovic who is thought to be keen on signing for Jose Mourinho‘s side.
Deal Delayed
Sky Sports News have just broken that a deal between the two is close to being finalised, but it’s being delayed on Stoke‘s side as they wait to officially sign a replacement.
It’s thought Aston Villa ‘keeper Shay Given will be on his way to the Britannia Stadium and once that deal is completed and over the line, then Mark Hughes will give the green light for Begovic to join Chelsea.
The Bosnian has become one of the Premier League‘s top ‘keepers since arriving from Portsmouth and Mourinho fully believes he can compete with Courtois for the number-one jersey.
It’s not yet understood what sort of fee it will be for the 28-year-old.
