Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has hailed midfielder Philippe Coutinho as a wonderful player and The Reds boss is aware of how crucial the Brazilian is to the team.

A shoulder injury sustained against Swansea City kept Coutinho sidelined for over a month, but he made his return during their 2-0 defeat to Arsenal at the weekend.

The former-Inter Milan playmaker signed for The Reds back in January for a fee estimated around ÂŁ8million, and since his arrival, he has become a fan favourite at Anfield after putting in some impressive performances in front of goal.

Playing just behind the deadly strike-force of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge, Coutinho is certain to create chances for not only himself, but the players around him and Rodgers understands just how crucial the Brazilian will be for the 2013/2014 campaign.

“We brought Coutinho on and he made the field a little bit narrower whilst allowing us to maintain the two up front. And he was terrific when he came on.

“He’s a wonderful player and we would’ve loved to have started him, but he’s only come back into the fold and got the medical clearance in the last couple of days. But his introduction gave us the opportunity to control the game more with the ball.

“He’s a wonderful player and a big talent for around ÂŁ8million. He is remarkable – his feet, his talent and his ability on the ball.”
