Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgerds has revealed that Simon Mignolet can come out fighting and regain his number one jersey on a permanent basis.

The Belgian international shot-stopper, who signed from Sunderland for ÂŁ9 million in 2013, returns to his former club on Saturday afternoon for a Premier League fixture.

Mignolet, aged 26, was dropped from the side in favour of Brad Jones, however has retained his place due to Jones sustaining an injury in recent weeks.

But Rodgers has stated that he is fully confident over his keeper, despite rumours that he is hopeful of finding a replacment.

“Simon was and still is a wonderful shot-stopper.

“He makes big saves, but he has had to adapt to coming into a big team where you are not having to make as many saves and therefore concentration is important.

“He probably has more touches of the ball with his feet than he might have expected.

“But he has come in here under massive expectation to replace a player who was outstanding for Liverpool for seven or eight years.

“He is trying to develop areas of his game. He knows he needs to improve with his feet and he is working hard on that.

“He is analysing the games and working with the coach and doing everything he can to be the best he can.”
