Brendan Rodgers promises to spend in January

According to Brendan Rodgers, Liverpool Football Club will be having a busy January transfer window, as the manager has promised fans that he will sign some quality players in order to compete for the title come May.

The Reds have had a great start to the 2013/2014 campaign and are currently joined second, only behind Chelsea on goal difference, however, they do trail the league leaders Arsenal by five points.

Last year, it was after Christmas when Rodgers’ men really pushed on and that was due to Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho both arriving at Anfield and impressing right from the start.

Knowing how important last year’s January acquisitions were, Rodgers is keen to do the same thing again this time around.

‘In January it’s difficult but our recruitment guys are working hard to identify that type of player to come in,’ said Rodgers. ‘Last year Daniel Sturridge came in and has been brilliant, so there are players out there.

‘But you’ve got to dig deeper and harder to get them in. Sometimes they might not be household names but they could have the quality. When Daniel came in there was a big question mark and he’s answered those questions. Coutinho, you can see, is a top young player.

‘There will be players who want to come but they’ll maybe want Champions League football. We can’t worry about it, we just need to find players who can make the difference for us.

‘Last season we made two great signings who gave us an injection of quality we needed. We will look to do that this January.’
