Carroll moved to West Ham on a permanent deal in the summer from Liverpool in a deal worth £15 million. The striker spent last year on loan at Upton Park and scored seven goals in 24 Premier League appearances but his season was troubled by a heel injury.
That heel injury has prevented Carroll from taking any part in pre-season, West Ham manager Sam Allardyce had at first hoped that Carroll would be fit to return before September. The striker only started training on Monday but was immediately hit by a fresh injury problem.
West Ham confirmed the injury in a statement and now wait for the ex-Newcastle and Liverpool man to see a specialist to find more about the injury.
