Celtic are set to be without midfielder Tom Rogic for their match against Rangers.

The Old Firm Derby will take place on the 29th of December.

Scottish Premiership champions and present leaders are expected to be without midfield ace Tom Rogic when they take on Rangers in their Scottish Premiership clash. The Australian international is set to join his national team in Dubai for the AFC Asia Cup and would not be available for the match against their arch-rivals.

The player has reportedly pleaded to manager Graham Arnold for allowing him to take part in the Old Firm Derby but the request seems to have fallen to deaf ears. Australia’s first match of the tournament does not start before the 6th of January and the midfielder reportedly wants to participate in the top of the table clash as the two giants of Scottish Football will lock horns with each other at the Ibrox.

As for the Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, he is almost sure that he will not be able to get the service of one of his midfield aces. The former Liverpool manager said, “Tom will play in the Aberdeen game and then he’ll fly out after that and miss the Rangers game as far as I’m aware, which is a shame for him, a shame for us. We feel a sensible compromise could have been taken for all the players in their squad.”

He added, “You can’t say it’s the same for everyone because everyone is different. Everyone has different needs, play at different clubs, different levels and this is a great game for him to be involved in. If he’s not, it’s a shame but we’ll just have to prepare without him. He has [made a personal plea], but there’s been enough said and written about it. Our feeling is he won’t be here, he’s got to go back. We move on.”
