Newcastle United midfielder Cheik Tiote has admitted that the squad is too small to be competitive this season and he has sent a message to manager Alan Pardew asking him to spend some money in order to strengthen the team.
The Magpies suffered a 4-0 thrashing on Monday night, away at Manchester City, in their opening game of the new Premier League season and could face losing midfielder Yohan Cabaye with Arsenal already having a £10million bid rejected.
To make things worse for Newcastle, defender Steve Taylor receieved a straight red card for hitting Sergio Aguero during Monday’s night game and he will now miss three games whilst midfielder Jonas Gutierrez is also expected to miss a few games due to injury.
The Toon have so far only captured Loic Remy in on-loan, but the Queens Park Rangers striker has already been injured in training and isn’t expected back until the end of August.
Tiote, who got Newcastle’s only shot on target on Monday, believes now is time for Pardew to spend some money in order to create a challenging squad.
He said: ‘I think we need some more players in the squad because we don’t have a big squad.
‘Now we have Steven Taylor out for three games and Jonas Gutierrez is injured. It is going to tough on us because we don’t have a big squad. I hope the chairman is going to spend money.’
