Chelsea are interested in a shock £25million deal for Burnley centre-half Michael Keane.

Blues boss Antonio Conte is desperate to bolster his defensive options after conceding nine goals in four games against Arsenal, Liverpool, Leicester City and Liverpool in their start to the new season.

The west London club looked worried at the back since an injury to captain John Terry – and Conte thinks Keane could be the possible solution to their problems, according to the Daily Mirror.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has made an enquiry to Burnley for the 23-year-old and they are willing to offer up to £25m for his signature.

Current Premier League champions Leicester City failed to bring Keane away from Turf Moor in the summer transfer window.

Keane only joined the Clarets in January 2015 for just £2million from Manchester United and the defender helped them to gain promotion back to the Premier League in the following season and conceded just 35 times in their 46 games in the Championship.

He has impressed since moving back up to the top tier of English football and has been a true leader in Sean Dyche’s outfit, having only conceded eight goals in their opening six games.

Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo and Conte believe the 23-year-old can be the one who replaces former England captain Terry.

The Blues re-signed David Luiz for £32m on deadline day but the Brazil international has been inconsistent at the back so far.
