Goalkeeper Mike Maignan on Chelsea radar

Chelsea Football Club is claimed to be improving its chase of AC Milan’s ace goalkeeper, Mike Maignan, in an incredible £70 million deal destined to upset the transfer market next summer.

According to sources close to the matter, Maignan is not only on Chelsea’s radar, but he is also open to a move to Stamford Bridge in 2024.

The 28-year-old French international, known for his excellent shot-stopping talents, has been a standout player since joining AC Milan from Lille in 2021. With 102 clean sheets in 271 games, Maignan has regularly proven his ability to hold opposing attack at away.

Chelsea’s interest in Maignan is not new; the club allegedly inquired about him during the previous transfer window.

“Chelsea have identified AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan as a potential signing as they’re looking for a world-class goalkeeper, sources have told TEAMtalk.

“The French international is a player the club highly admire. That does not guarantee that Chelsea will make a bid for his services but sources state that he would be open to a move in the summer.”

Although a contract was not reached at the time, the Blues are ready to get back to talks as they seek a long-term solution for their goalkeeping position.

With Edouard Mendy leaving in the summer and Kepa Arrizabalaga now on loan at Real Madrid, Chelsea has brought in Djordje Petrovic and Robert Sanchez as temporary solutions but is targeting Maignan as the permanent number one.

While AC Milan may want a hefty £70 million for Maignan’s services, the goalkeeper’s obvious excitement to join Chelsea could be an essential factor in the deal’s completion.
