Blues looking for long-term John Terry replacement

Chelsea are further stepping up their efforts to sign a new centre-back this summer after making an enquiry for Raphael Varane and readying a new bid for John Stones.

The Blues have already had bids of around ÂŁ30 million rejected by Everton for Stones, although they are set to bid again due to the loss of form to the Chelsea defence so far this season.

Terry Out?

John Terry‘s future has been cast into doubt in recent weeks following an arguable decline in his displays, and the 34 year-old’s cause was not helped after being sent-off at West Brom on Sunday and being substituted in the 3-0 defeat at Manchester City last weekend.

This has led to Jose Mourinho considering his options with just over a week left of the summer window, and Varane is another on the list of targets should they continue to fail to prize Stones away from Goodison Park.

They are expected to bid again in the region of ÂŁ35 million for Stones, however will then turn to Varane if this is rejected, but he himself will be difficult to acquire as he’s a current first choice at Real Madrid this season, however he is a player who has worked with Mourinho before which could be an important factor in any approach.
