Chelsea are set to make a formal bid for FC Barcelona star, Gerard Pique, and are prepared to spend up to £24million on the centre-back.
The Spaniard has been identified as the perfect long-term replacement for John Terry, and according to reports, The Blues will table a £23.6m bid for the 27-year-old in the New Year.
Pique, who has also been linked with a return to Manchester United, is thought to want a new football challenge after growing tired in Spain, and a return back to England could be on the cards despite his poor experience first time around.
The defender came through United’s ranks but never quite made the first-team, similar to Paul Pogba, but after he left to re-join his boyhood club of Barca, he developed into one of the world’s best central defenders.
It’s believed that Chelsea’s £23.6m offer is close to Barca’s valuation of the defender, so a deal could be arranged in January.
