Chelsea have completed the signing of goalkeeper Robert Green on a free transfer from Huddersfield Town. The 38-year old former England international did not play a single match for Huddersfield Town last season. Green signed a one-year contract at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea said on their official website that Green will be a cover for Thibaut Courtois and Willy Caballero.

Green said, “It has been a whirlwind 24 hours. You are thinking about your career and where you want to go and then you get a phone call like this – and it is a short conversation. It has been a pretty dramatic time for me and it is a thrill and an honour to be here.”

Robert Green brings a sea of experience with him to Stamford Bridge. In a career that is reaching the span of 2 decades, Green has played a total of 658 matches with 609 of them coming in the Premier League. He has spent most of his career at Norwich City and West Ham.

Green played for England from 2005-2012, being a part of their squads for the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012. Green is best remembered for a massive blunder he made against United States at 2010 World Cup which resulted in USA equalising. The match indirectly played a huge role in England’s elimination from the tournament in the round of 16 against Germany.
