New Chelsea signing Diego Costa has revealed he chose to join the Premier League side because they are ‘one of the greatest clubs in the world’.
After having an impressive season up front for Atletico Madrid, where they won the La Liga title, and also reached the Champions League final, Costa was one of Europe’s most wanted strikers, and a few weeks ago it was confirmed that Jose Mourinho won the race to sign the Spaniard.
Currently taking part in the Brazil World Cup for Spain, Costa’s transfer has been all-but wrapped up, and in an interview, he was asked about his looming transfer to England, and he revealed the reasons behind making the switch.
‘Why would I have chosen to play for Chelsea? It is a thing that is about to happen,’ Costa told Goal.com. ‘Things are going in a direction and, if they keep going as they are going, it is the team I will play for in the next season.
‘I’ve wanted to play in the Premier League for a while. Chelsea are one of the greatest clubs of the world so there are many factors that make you take a decision like this.
‘Every year is a different story, nothing is easy in life. I will have to work a lot to fit in with the style of the Premier League.’
Costa will be lining up alongside his Spanish team-mate, Cesc Fabregas, who also completed his transfer to Chelsa last week.
