Arsenal face losing out on long-term target Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid after Bundesliga side Wolfsburg submitted a formal bid worth around £15.9million.

The Gunners have been monitoring the youngster since January, and were desperate to strike a loan-deal with Madrid until the rest of the season, but manager Carlo Ancelotti was adamant that no loan deals would be agreed to until the end of the season.

Now it’s clear that the Spanish side are willing to part ways with the young Spaniard, but they have reportedly told The Gunners to cough up £24m for him, and also want a buy-back option just in case he develops into a top-class striker.

Despite asking for over £20m, Wolfsburg have made the first move by offering nearly £16m for the 21-year-old, which could force Arsenal into bidding, and also Serie A side Juventus, who have also been showing interest.

It’s reported that Juve offered around £14m for the striker, which is not enough in Madrid’s eyes, and according to reports in Spain, officials from Wolfsburg are set to fly out to hold talks with the hierarcy at the Bernabeu.
