Chelsea were left empty handed as Harry Kane was named the Premier League Player of the Year at the London Football Awards on Thursday night.

The Blues had nothing to show after a disappointing night in London despite being the reigning champions of England.

Tottenham’s Harry Kane won the Premier League player of the year gong which was unsurprising given his 29 goals last season and his 24 goals this season already.

Meanwhile, in another surprising twist, Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson won the Manager of the Year award for 2017. That could be due to how he remarkably turned around Palace’s relegation-bound 2017/18 season.

The awards- which were only for London-based footballers and for the year 2017, also took into account young players; with the Young Footballer of the Year award going to Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon.

Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta was nominated for the Premier League Player of the Year award but lost out. While goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois lost in the best goalkeeper category to Brentford goalkeeper Daniel Bentley.

21-year-old Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen was also nominated for the Young Player of the Year award.

And in a further blow, all of Chelsea’s women players that were nominated also lost out with Millie Bright, Katie Chapman and Fran Kirby nominated for Women’s Player of the Year but lost out to Jordan Nobbs of Arsenal.

And lastly, former Arsenal player Ian Wright won the Outstanding Contribution to London Football award.
