Chris Hughton insists Brighton & Hove Albion’s performance against Liverpool would determine their progress so far in this season.

Brighton come into the game with back to back wins in the Premier League and the FA Cup while Liverpool are yet to register a win in the new year so far. The Seagulls have had a topsy and turvy season but surely will fancy their chance on their home turf against the League leaders.

Jurgen Klopp does have to reshuffle his backline following the injury of Dejan Lovren  and it could be a big opportunity for Hughton to set the tone for the remainder of the season.

Brighton are scheduled to face three top-six opponents in their next six matches so they need to ensure they get at least a point against the Reds. Hughton said, “A Liverpool team coming here and playing at their best, it’s incredibly difficult to do anything about that.

“It goes without saying that a good day for us would have to be us playing somewhere near our best and Liverpool not playing so well.

“We have to remember we’re in decent form, we’re at home and we have to take any of the advantages that we can.

“At this moment, Liverpool are the best team in the league. Their league position says that. I thought we did really well up at Anfield this season.

“But we can also remember the game at the Amex last season. They were outstanding on the break and we found it difficult to cope with them.

“It’s a great challenge for us, and anything that we can get would show how far we’ve come over this period of time.”
