Mourinho who has never shyed away from controversy in the past has this time found himself in hot water with Spain boss Vicente Del Bosque.

Vicente Del Bosque was reportedly fuming when Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa both withdrew from the Spain camp with injuries.

Some in the Spanish camp have apparently questioned whether the reason for the withdrawal was down to Mourinho’s influence on the players and their lack of commitment to the Spanish team.

Cesar Azpilicueta has leaped to Jose’s defence in a bid to restore calm.

Azpilicueta told Inside Spanish Football: “No [he didn’t pressure me]. He knows that I’m always thrilled to come play for Spain.

“When the squad is announced I’m overjoyed and when I’m with Chelsea I give my all.

“I don’t know anything [about Fabregas or Costa] and I’m speaking for myself.

“What I see is that they’ve always shown the utmost commitment whenever they’ve been here.”

Club vs Country has always caused stirs between Managers, with the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson frequently voicing his opinion in the past and most recently Brendan Rodgers over Raheem Sterling’s decision to ask to be left out of the England team due to tiredness.
