Courtois not rushing contract talks

Chelsea goalkeeper Thilbault Courtois, who is currently enjoying a successful loan spell in Spain with Atletico Madrid has confirmed that he will not discuss any possible new deal until Belgium’s World Cup campaign is over and done with, as the talented stopper’s future seems up in the air at the current moment.

The goalkeeper has been an ever present understudy to regular first choice goalkeeper Petr Cech, who is regarded as a favourite by manager Jose Mourinho, as the Portuguese manager still hold’s Cech in high very regards….ever since Mourinho’s first spell in charge at Stamford Bridge.

The Belgian international, 21, has been out on loan in the spanish capital for the previous three seasons and is yet to play a competitive fixture for Chelsea since his 2011 move from Belgian outfit Genk. With only two-years remaining on his current contract interest is mounting in Courtois, with some of europe’s top sides looking at the talented international shot stopper.

Courtois, who is in competition with Liverpool keeper Simon Mingolet, who himself has been in impressive form since his summer move to Liverpool, after a stand out season at Sunderland.

After Courtois superb performances in recent years whilst in Spain, the Blues could be in line to make ÂŁ23 million profit should Barcelona stump up the cash they’re reportedly willing to put Chelsea’s way after it has been confirmed that Victor Valdes will leave the Catalan giants at the end of the season, after an historic decade or so at the Nou Camp.

If Chelsea allow Courtois to leave west London it would be a huge error from both Mourinho and Abramovich respectively as it would then leave the Blues without a guaranteed future first choice keeper, as Petr Cech is ageing ….like the rest of Mourinho’s old guard, and veteran Aussie keeper Mark Schwarzer is only used as a back up to Cech.

Mourinho has stated to various newspaper outlets in the last few weeks……

n this moment I don’t think about it,” he said.

“It’s a good decision. We have the best goalkeeper in the world and the best young goalkeeper in the world.

“I don’t think many people disagree with me. If somebody disagrees it will not be by far.”It’s a very good problem. Our goal is safe and financially we are also very safe because their value in the market is the value of the best.”

Time will tell if Courtois will stay at the Bridge…..
