Alan Pardew confirms he’ll ask Chelsea captain to join him

Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew has admitted he’d take Chelsea defender John Terry at Selhurst Park after he confirmed he’d be leaving his boyhood club at the end of the season.

Following the club’s 5-1 win over MK Dons in the FA Cup yesterday, Terry announced he would be leaving Chelsea once his current contract expires, and Pardew is keen on signing him for the Eagles.

Terry admitted the club decided not to offer him a new 12-month deal, and with his current deal expiring in June, his time at Stamford Bridge is coming to an end.

Arsene Wenger has already ruled Arsenal out of the race, unsurprisingly, but Pardew has confirmed he’ll ask Terry to come to Selhurst Park.

Pardew Wants Terry

‘I’ve bumped into John Terry on occasion and asked him many times to join me,’ Pardew said. ‘He always sniggers at the suggestion.

‘Of course I will ask one more time. I’m sure I’ll bump into him again and ask the question.’

The Palace manager added: ‘He’s got a winning mentality that anyone would want. I’ve seen his comments about leaving Chelsea and he’s probably called it right.

‘He’ll have plenty of options, MLS, Gary Neville has gone to Spain, and there’s China.

‘He’s got now until the summer to decide the right move for him and his family.’

Despite Pardew being interested, Terry has already admitted he’d struggle to play for another Premier League club.
