Danny Welbeck is pleased to see his patience being rewarded under new manager Unai Emery. Welbeck scored a brace as Arsenal extended their winning run to six matches in all competitions to shrug off the challenge of Brentford in the Carabao Cup third round.

The former Manchester United forward made his second start of the season and made an immediate impact by bagging two goals to give some major selection headache to the gaffer.

Despite being limited to a handful of minutes in the Premier League this was Welbeck’s fourth goal in six appearances including four from the bench which speaks volumes. Although both Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are amongst goals, it seems Emery could tweak his lineup a bit to involve the 27 year old.

Welbeck said, “You have got to wait for your opportunity.

“A few of the lads had a bit more of a pre-season than me which made it a bit difficult, I came back a bit later than the others.

“I got 90 minutes last week, 90 minutes today and I’m just going to build on it from there and keep improving.”

On being asked about his chances of getting selected by Gareth Southgate he answered, “It is for Gareth to decide who he picks in the squad, not for me or you to say.

“What I can do is just focus on me, not focus on anything else that is the most important thing.”
