DAVID DE GEA: Manchester United risk losing keeper on free-transfer

Manchester United are facing the prospect of losing goalkeeper David De Gea on a free-transfer, with the Spaniard yet to sign a new deal at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils fear that their 24-year-old shot-stopper may depart the club on a free-transfer, with his current deal winding down.

De Gea, who signed from Atletico Madrid in summer 2011 as Edwin Van Der Sar’s replacement, has been a stand-out performer for Louis Van Gaal’s side this season, form which has seen Real Madrid take an interest in his services.

His contract expires at the end of next season, with the Daily Mirror stating that De Gea has shown now indication of penning a new deal with United.

The paper also claim that a source inside the club has said that Manchester United are now in a ‘worse case scenario’ with De Gea, regarding his contract.

The source said: “It has turned into the worst-case scenario.

“There has been no indication that De Gea will sign a new contact and at some point a decision will have to be made when to cash in on him.

“When a player enters the final 12 to 18 months of his contract, his value begins to drop dramatically.

“There’s talk of De Gea being worth ÂŁ50million, but that is unrealistic given there is probably only one club he would sign for.”
