Colombian goalkeeper David Ospina has joined Napoli on loan from Arsenal. The 29-year old will play for the Gli Azzurri for the season and the club also has an option to buy him next summer.

Ospina joined Arsenal on a four-year deal in the summer of 2014 from Nice. His transfer fee was reportedly ÂŁ3 million. However, the Colombian was never a regular for the Gunners. He made 18 Premier League appearances in his first season. However, from the 2015-16 season onwards, played second-fiddle to Petr Cech. In four years, Ospina played a total of 70 matches for the Gunners, keeping 27 clean sheets.

Following the arrival of Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen, Ospina requested a transfer in order to get more playing time. Ospina should be a starter for the Serie A club, now that their No.1 Alex Meret is injured.

Arsenal released a statement on their official website, reading, “We would like to wish David the very best for the season.”

The 29-year old is Napoli’s 12th signing of the transfer window. He is also the third goalkeeper who Carlo Ancelotti has signed this summer. Napoli begin their Serie A campaign today against Lazio at Rome.
