Debuchy: I miss European football

Newcastle defender Mathieu Debuchy has admitted that he misses Champions League football, putting Arsenal on red alert. The Frenchman was part of Lille’s Champions League campaign in 2012, after he helped the Ligue 1 side win the title the year before.

The 28-year old then moved to Newcastle in January 2013 and he has performed consistently well for the St James’ Park side. But the 28-year old wants another taste of Champions League football and the Gunners could be prepared to give it him. He said:

“Personally, it’s a great adventure. I have discovered English charm, which is very hard, Newcastle and their extraordinary fans. It’s really incredible to play in that atmosphere. Having said that, I miss European football and the Champions League in particular.

“For the moment, I’m concentrating on the World Cup. We’ll see about the rest afterwards.”

Arsene Wenger is currently in the market for a new right-back after losing Bacary Sagna to Man City and Mathieu Debuchy could end up being his replacement.
