Croat was stretchered off during last night’s Capital One Cup game

Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren could be out for up to two months, according to reports.

The Reds centre-back was stretchered off in extra-time against Carlisle United in the club’s third round match of the Capital One Cup, and early indications say it’s a bad one.

Lovren is believed to have broken his ankle, but according to reports from the Liverpool Echo this morning, the club are fearing that he’s damaged ligaments as well.

Two Months Outh

After being carried off on a stretcher, the Croat was given oxygen to help breathe, so it was clear he was in pain when leaving the stadium.

Liverpool will know more later day, but first thoughts are that he could miss up to eight weeks.

That would leave Brendan Rodgers with Mamadou Sakho, Kolo Toure and Martin Srktel as recognised centre-backs, with Emre Can and Joe Gomez also possible options.
