Liverpool and Arsenal target has whopping clause in contract

Real Madrid winger Denis Cheryshev could be stuck at the Bernabeu for the foreseeable future after his mega-release clause in his contract was revealed.

The Russian winger spent last season out on loan to La Liga rivals Villarreal, but after failing to earn a permanent move to them this summer, it looked like he was ready to move elsewhere.

According to reports there was strong interest from the Premier League, with Arsenal and Liverpool both interested in signing him, in particular Brendan Rodgers, who was linked with him throughout the summer.

Despite making just one senior appearance for the club, Cheryshev is adamant that Madrid want to keep him, and he has revealed that they were desperate to insert a mega-release clause into his contract.

The 24-year-old has been with the club since he was 12, after moving from Spanish minnows Burgos, and he confirmed when he signed his latest deal that Madrid ordered him to have the release clause.

Release Clause

He said: “That’s what the club decided. No doubt Real Madrid do not want anyone to sign me.

“There was interest and proposals to take me on loan, but Real Madrid did not want to let me go.

“I’m conscious that at the moment Ronaldo plays in my position, but that does not scare me. When I get a chance I am to take the opportunity. I’m not frightened of anything.”

The Gunners and The Reds were put off Cheryshev when Madrid were asking for more than £15million.
