Real Madrid winger snubbed chance to join Arsenal or Liverpool
Real Madrid winger Denis Cheryshev has revealed he has no regrets about turning down the chance to join either Arsenal or Liverpool over the summer.
The Russian international is a fringe player at the Bernabeu, and after spending last season out on-loan at Villarreal, it was expected he’d complete a permanent move away from Madrid over the summer.
With Arsenal and Liverpool both keen, it looked like a move to the Premier League would be on the cards for Cheryshev, but instead, he snubbed the English duo’s interest and stayed put at Madrid.
It was reported that both clubs were prepared to pay £15million for the winger, but instead, he chose to fight for his place under Rafael Benitez.
No Regrets
So far this season, Cheryshev has played just 35-minutes under Benitez, but he insists that he has no regrets about snubbing a move abroad.
“Everything you do is for the best. That’s what happened and I have nothing to regret,” he is quoted as saying in Marca.
“I’m in good spirits. Of course, you want to play more, but it’s not an easy situation. You need to stay strong and keep your chin up.”
