Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has extended his stay at the club till 2022.
Simeone did put pen to paper to a new contract in 2017 which was supposed to expire in 2020 but later cut it short by two years. But his new extension will be a pale of fresh air at the club as the Madrid giants are expected to push for more honours in near future.
The Argentine is currently one of the longest serving managers and his new contract will only help the club to grow. The manager was linked with a potential move to Italy with Inter Milan but is unlikely to leave the club after committing his long term future.
Simeone has turned the fortunes of the Spanish club since his arrival almost eight years ago and has won a plethora of trophies including the La Liga title and the Europa League.
He said, “We are looking to the future with a lot of hope, but with a lot of challenges. And as always, thinking about game by game.
“We’ve decided this situation along with the club’s directors and it does not mean we will not renew again when the contract end.
”We continue to show what we feel for the club. It doesn’t bother me that people speculate about my future but the fact I’m here is because I want to be here.”
