Liverpool officials want Atletico Madrid manager, Diego Simeone, to replace under-fire Brendan Rodgers, at the end of the season, if not before.
According to reports, the Liverpool board are running out of patience with Rodgers after a disastrous Summer transfer window and a shocking start to the new Premier League campaign, as well as failing to advance further than the group stages in the Champions League.
A 1-1 draw on Tuesday night at home to FC Basel saw Rodgers’ side eliminated from the Champions League and demoted into the Europa League for the knockout rounds, and the board are losing their patience with the Northern Irishman.
It’s believed there is a three-man list to replace Rodgers, and Simeone is topping the list after a sensational season last year with Atletico.
The Argentine guided his side to the La Liga title as well as the Champions League final, and he is highly-regarded as one of the best young coaches in Europe.
As well as Simeone, Liverpool officials are keen to talk with Jurgen Klopp and Andre Villas-Boas, but Simeone is their number-one option, if they do choose to part ways with Rodgers.
