Goalkeeper signs three-year deal at Liberty Stadium

Swansea City have announced the arrival of Heerenveen goalkeeper Kristoffer Nordfeldt after he agreed a three-year deal at the Liberty Stadium.

The 26-year-old has arrived in Wales as the club’s new number-two, and will provide competition to current number-one Lukasz Fabianski.

Garry Monk‘s men needed a new shot-stopper after they lost two ‘keepers in the shape of Gerhard Tremmel and David Cornell, and Nordfeldt is the man they turned to.

The Swedish international has made five senior appearances for his country since making his debut back in 2011, and has made over 200 league appearances for his previous clubs.

Nordfeldt started his career with Brommapojkarna before moving to Heerenveen, and made 103 and 104 league appearances respectively.

After Swansea announced the deal, the goalkeeper spoke to the club’s official website and revealed his delight at securing the deal on his birthday.

Player Statement

He said: “I am really happy to be here at Swansea – this is the perfect birthday gift for me!

“I think this is the right step for me to take from the Dutch Eredivisie to Swansea in the Premier League.

“The Dutch way of playing football is about possession play and it all begins with the goalkeeper. That’s something I’m comfortable with, but I’m also hoping to improve on that here.

“First of all I want to improve myself and help the squad and club move forward. That’s my main goal.”

The ‘keeper then continued and admitted that the Premier League attraction was enough to convince him to join The Swans.

“The Premier League is a great league, but what attracted me most was the vision of the club and everyone who works here is really warm and welcoming. That was the main reason for me joining Swansea,” he added.

“Swansea as a club is a like a big family, and the ambitions of the club fits with my own ambitions.”
