Liverpool and Arsenal have been linked with Borussia Dortmund’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan, but a move may be unlikely as Dortmund struggle to find a replacement.

The replacement was thought to be AC Milan’s Stephan El Shaarawy, but the Egyptian’s brother, also his agent, has ruled out a move away from the San Siro.

Manuel El Shaarawy told calcionews24: “The transfer rumours are not true.

“Stephan’s Rossonero future has never been in question. And I have not been contacted by any other club.

“Stephan’s mood is good, he just lacks in scoring a bit. His performances have always been positive. He’s concentrated on doing well and finding continuity.”

The news that Mkhitaryan may not be leaving has forced Liverpool and Arsenal looking elsewhere in their chase for midfield reinforcements.

Arsenal may now turn their attention to Barcelona’s Pedro, while Liverpool may line up a bid for Tottenham’s Danish star Christian Eriksen.
