Frenchman had chance to join Manchester United before he chose Chelsea
Arsenal legend Emmanuel Petit has admitted he regrets not joining Manchester United after he left La Liga giants FC Barcelona.
The midfielder was a fan favourite at Highbury after he formed an impressive partnership along with Patrick Vieira in the heart of the Gunners midfield.
However, after a sensational three years with the North London club, the Frenchman agreed to leave Arsenal and join Barcelona.
Sadly for Petit, he failed to settle in Spain and was set for a quick return to the Premier League.
In a recent interview, the former-midfielder has admitted he regrets choosing a move to Chelsea over a move to United, but he’s revealed that it was his wife that convinced him.
Petit Reveals All
‘I made a lifestyle choice to the detriment of the sporting choice,’ Petit told Football365.fr.
‘And on the rare occasions that I’ve made that choice, I’ve got it wrong. It was the same thing when I left Barcelona to go back to Chelsea.
‘I gave priority to the social life in London when Ferguson expected me to sign for Manchester United.
‘My wife didn’t want to go to Manchester. I’m really annoyed at myself – I should have insisted upon my decision.’
