Once upon a time, the giants of world football – Manchester United, failed to convince a 34-year-old washed up wing back to stay at their club as a captain.

Yes, unfortunately that is the hard truth for the Red Devils. The player in question is Ashley Young.

Young was captaining United when half way through the season, he decided it was time to join a club who could win him trophies. He went skipping as Antonio Conte’s new look Inter Milan side came knocking.

Having joined the club a few weeks back, Young already looks the part at Serie A and is enjoying a new life.

“It’s not strange at all,” he told talkSPORT. “I wanted a new challenge and I’ve got a new challenge and I’m loving every minute of my time out here.

“And, like I said, yesterday was an unbelievable feeling and I’m delighted we got the three points”, he added after Inter’s comeback 4-2 win over AC Milan.

“I think it was an incredible feeling,” Young said. “You could see the way we celebrated after the game showed the character and strength we’ve got.

“To go 2-0 down in a derby like that then come back and win, that shows our character. It was an unbelievable experience.”

“It definitely is [up there],” Young explained after the derby. “I came here to play football and win games, and when you come and win in the Milan derby in the way we did, it’s just an incredible feeling.

“I don’t think it gets any better than that.”
