Depay eyeing move to a top European club

Memphis Depay has said he is open to a move away from Lyon after being on a fantastic run of form for the last year.

“Lyon is a big club, but not one of the five best in Europe,” he said.  “I want to go to a club like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich. I want to go to a city that suits me and a club that suits me, to a team that really wants to play football, I always talk about Real Madrid, a royal club, white shirts with gold, but I focus on now at Lyon and then we see where I end up.”

However, the player has not mentioned Manchester United as a possible destination; which could be understandable given his history with the club. “When I left, I said to Mourinho ‘you will see me at the top’,” Memphis told The Times. “He said ‘OK, I hope that and I hope we will buy you back one day.’ I never had a bad relationship with him.”

“We didn’t fall out, it was just a misconnection with each other,” Memphis said about Van Gaal. “As a team we didn’t play great football and some things I don’t understand — if you have talented young players, Anthony Martial, Luke Shaw and the others, they need freedom.”
