Manchester City have emerged as the favourites to sign Everton defender John Stones.
Stones has been a key attraction at Goodison Park since breaking into the first team in 2014-15 season.
Everton’s resolve to keep the England star was tested to the limit last summer, with Chelsea having multiple bids rejected.
Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona were also thought to be keen on Stones, but it is United’s neighbours City who are leading the chase.
The Mirror claims that the Etihad club are preparing a deal this coming summer.
Versatile Stones is adept at either centre-back or right-back.
He had a horror show at City on Wednesday in the Capital One Cup semi-final, but his performance has not deterred City.
City may well target Stones as a replacement for Vincent Kompany, who has been struggling with injuries.
