Chelsea dealt blow in hunt for new manager

Chelsea have been dealt a blow in their hopes to make Masssimiliano Allegri their new manager after his agent confirmed that he was staying in Italy.

Allegri, currently manager at Serie A leaders Juventus, was reportedly the top target of Blues owner Roman Abramovich’s wishlist to replace Guus Hiddink at the end of this season.

But his agent, Giovanni Branchini, has reportedly told Tuttosport: “Allegri is fine where he is. He is happy at Juventus.”

Allegri has brought success back to the black and white side of Turin since taking over in 2014.

He won the double in his first season in charge, and this season, as well as leading Serie A by two points, has a Champions League knockout tie with Bayern Munich to look forward to.

Chelsea may now have to look elsewhere to find a replacement for Hiddink. Other names in the frame include Diego Simeone of Atletico Madrid, and Italy coach Antonio Conte.
