He is classed as a home-grown player

Premier League champions Leicester City have signed goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler from Bundesliga side Hannover 96 for an undisclosed fee.

The 27-year old has penned a four-year contract and will stay at the King Power Stadium until at least 2020, providing some serious competition for the Foxes’ number one shot-stopper Kasper Schmeichel.

Zieler was part of the Germany squad that won the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, despite not playing a single game throughout the tournament.

The ‘keeper started his professional career at Leicester’s Premier League rivals Manchester United, playing alongside new Leicester teammates Danny Simpson, Danny Drinkwater, Ritchie De Laet and Matty James in United’s youth teams.

However, he failed to make a single first team appearance at United, meaning his only appearances in English football came during a loan spell with Northampton Town back in the 2008-2009 season.
