FA to investigate Jose Mourinho’s referee comments

The Football Association have decided that they want to look at Jose Mourinho’s comments about referee Anthony Taylor in more detail.

Taylor is the man in the middle for Monday’s big Premier League clash between Liverpool and Manchester United at Anfield.

Liverpool fans have voiced their displeasure over this, and Taylor’s appointment is a surprise, given that he lives in Altrincham, just a few miles from Manchester.

Mark Clattenburg, widely seen as English football’s number one referee, has not been issued a game this a weekend.

The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) made the appointment of Taylor, and they have come under fire for this .

“I think Mr Taylor is a very good referee but I think somebody with intention is putting such a pressure on him that I feel that it will be difficult for him to have a very good performance,” Mourinho said.

“I have my view on it but I don’t want to say anything as I have learned a lesson after being punished so many times.”

Although Mourinho kept his remarks brief, he was breaking the FA regulations stipulating managers and players should not make pre-match comments about referees so there could be no suggestion of them trying to influence the officials. These regulations were introduced in 2009.
