Sam Johnstone has pledged his future to Manchester United by signing a new contract.

The deal is until 2018, with the further option of an extra year for Johnstone, who has been with the Red Devils since the age of ten.

Johnstone told ManUtd.com:  ‘I am delighted to have signed a new contract. I have been with the club since I was 10 years old and have grown up here.

‘The last 13 years have flown by and I have enjoyed every moment of my time here so far.

‘I am working with world-class goalkeepers every day and now I am going to use all that experience to push myself and show the manager what I can do.’

Johnstone has not started for the club in a competitive game under Jose Mourinho, but he has been on the bench for the games against Northampton and Zorya Luhansk.

He had been linked with a move to Aston Villa, now managed by ex-United defender Steve Bruce. But instead, he will continue his development at Old Trafford, hoping to continue his rise through the ranks and gain some starts.
